Salem Lutheran Church and School Additions and Renovations

PROJECT: SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL ADDITIONS AND RENOVATIONS

CLIENT: SALEM LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL

LOCATION: TOMBALL, TEXAS

ARCHITECT: MERRIMAN HOLT POWELL ARCHITECTS

Since 1851, Salem Lutheran Church and School has been a cornerstone of the Spring Creek community, home to one of Texas’s oldest Lutheran congregations and one of its longest-running Christian schools, now serving more than a thousand students daily. Paradigm has served as Salem’s construction partner for over a decade, completing 37 phases of work across their 120-acre campus.

Our role has never been limited to building what’s on the drawings. Salem’s budget is funded by congregational giving, and we treat that responsibility accordingly, consistently identifying solutions that deliver more value, longer service life, and better outcomes than the original ask.

When portable classrooms were proposed to accommodate school growth, a Paradigm-led analysis of existing campus space revealed a more cost-effective path: a permanent renovation that converted underutilized space into classrooms and a modernized pastor’s suite at a comparable price point. When site plans for the 2005 community center threatened a grove of century-old oak trees, Paradigm redesigned the site layout to preserve them, trees that still anchor the campus today. And when gas line easements posed a significant barrier to long-term expansion, Paradigm coordinated their consolidation and relocation, clearing the path for the campus growth now underway.

The results speak to the quality of that partnership. The 1996 sanctuary and 2005 community center have both remained in continuous service with minimal intervention, performing exactly as they were built to perform.

Recent completed phases include a 2,934 SF cafeteria conversion to classrooms, a 6,709 SF Narthex refresh, and a 16,280 SF renovation delivering new classrooms, relocated administration offices, and a new porte-cochere.
