In recognition of National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction (May 4–8, 2026)
Each year, the National Safety Stand-Down serves as a reminder of one of the most critical risks in our industry: falls from height.
It is easy to think of fall protection as something that begins when work starts at elevation. Harnesses are on. Tie-offs are secured. Systems are in place.
But effective fall prevention starts long before anyone leaves the ground.
Planning Is the First Line of Defense
Fall prevention begins in preconstruction.
Before steel is erected or lifts arrive on site, our team identifies where fall risks will exist and how they will be controlled. This includes evaluating access points, sequencing work to reduce exposure, and ensuring the right systems are planned from the start.
The safest projects are the ones where risk is addressed before work begins.
Proactive Field Audits Drive Accountability
On every project, safety is not a one-time conversation. It is a daily commitment.
Led by our Safety Manager, Ziggy Garcia, our teams conduct ongoing field audits to reinforce expectations and identify potential gaps before they become incidents. These audits are not about checking a box. They create awareness, reinforce training, and maintain accountability across every trade partner on site.
When safety is consistently visible, it becomes part of the culture.
Daily Conversations Reinforce the Standard
Stand-Down Week creates an opportunity to pause for focused safety discussions. That matters.
But fall prevention cannot be limited to one week.
We incorporate daily safety huddles into our projects to review risks, align on the plan, and ensure every team member understands expectations for the day’s work. These conversations keep safety top of mind and empower crews to speak up before an issue arises.
The Right Equipment Requires the Right Plan
Harnesses, guardrails, tie-off points, and lift plans are all critical.
But equipment alone does not prevent falls.
It must be selected early, installed correctly, and used consistently. That only happens when teams are aligned from the beginning and understand not just what to use, but why it matters.
A Culture That Protects People
Fall prevention is not just about compliance. It is about people.
It is about making sure every individual on site goes home safely. It is about accountability and looking out for one another.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration leads the Stand-Down initiative to raise awareness of fall hazards across the industry. We see it as an opportunity to reinforce what we believe every day: safety is not a phase of the project. It is the foundation.
As a trusted general contractor, we do not wait until someone climbs to think about fall protection.
We plan for it. We talk about it. And we build a culture around it.
Because Building to a Higher Standard starts with protecting the people who make it possible.
